Lake Alta

On Sunday before the wedding, Stephen, Maggie, Jay and I decided to do a little sight seeing. We went to a place that was recommended called Lake Alta. This is actually 3 small lakes high up in the mountains. It was a good thing that Stephen got the free upgrade to a 4x4 Explorer, otherwise we wouldn't have made it up there. We actually saw people biking up this narrow mtn. pass. (I couldn't help but think of you Carter!) These folks were struggling (refer to previous post about the altitude) and they looked pretty professional so I couldn't help but wonder what I would have looked like. Actually, I didn't have to think too hard because I wouldn't have even made down the block. In the first picture below, I am trying to capture the sheer terror that everyone in the car was feeling as we made our way up. Directly below that first patch of green by the road is a good 40 feet drop.

We were up so high that there was still some snow on the ground!
